Spook Fest 2015 – Day 22 – The Frozen

Movie 22 of Spook Fest 2015 is “The Frozen”.  No not the Disney movie, this is one of those ambiguous winter horror movies.  There was another “Frozen” in 2010 that was actually quite good, where a few people get stuck on a ski lift for a week or something. But ok Hollywood, let’s try to come up with a new name for a winter movie ok?

Spook Fest 2015 – Day 21 – Beneath Loch Ness

So I’m an admitted Scotland fan, and I’ve actually been to Loch Ness once, so it was a no-brainer to select “Beneath Loch Ness” for Spook Fest, even though it has a 1 star rating on Netflix.  Ok, so I’m sure it’s going to have terrible acting and special effects, but that’s not why you watch movies like this; it’s for the camp value.

I couldn’t find a trailer for this movie, which means it must be REALLY good. 😛

Lights Out Monica the Medium Chat

As a Penn Stater and local to State College, PA, I’m always interested in following local paranormal stories.  It started with the Penn State Paranormal Research Soceity, which lead to the A&E TV show Paranormal State.  Ryan Buell and the folks in the club used to have a yearly convention called Univ-Con and it was the first time I got interested in ghost hunting when I got a chance to meet Jason and Grant from TAPS.

This past year another local show, this time on ABC Family called Monica the Medium features a medium who is also a Penn State student.  I haven’t watched a lot of it yet, but from what I have seen I’ve loved how everything is filmed right in the town I live in, in places I see on a daily basis.

I noticed Monica posted something last night to twitter that she’d be doing a web chat, so I thought it would be interesting to see what she had to say.  In the chat she seemed very down-to-earth, and was very willing to interact with the fans.  She happily answered questions about her experiences with being a medium, as well as the many things going on in her life now that she’s a TV star.

So last night in the middle of this conversation with fans, without leaving the camera, the lights in the room just suddenly powered off.  I saw it… she didn’t get up to do it, and I didn’t notice anybody else in the room other than her tiny dog.  This was at an airbnb she’s staying at while filming a Nightline special in California (see below).  She seemed only a bit weirded out by it… it seemed as though she has experienced this sort of thing so often that she was mostly unphased.  Later on her computer started acting up, although as an IT guy I would not blame the spirits for that one.

While it wasn’t a huge earth shattering event, it was pretty neat to see something unexplained happen live!  Unfortunately there’s no recording of it!

Here’s the Nightline special featuring Monica:

Spook Fest 2015 – Day 17 – Mine Games

Day 17 was a mind bender of a horror movie called Mine Games. These movies make me wonder why I never took road trips with my friends to strange houses in the middle of nowhere (and definitely outside of cell phone reception). Apparently I was missing out!

Spook Fest 2015 – Day 16 – The House at the End of Time

Day 16 of Spook Fest 2015 brings The House at the End of Time. We are equal opportunity horror fans here at Hauntd and this Venezuelan horror film is not the first subtitled film we’ve had on Spook Fest this year. It was the highest grossing thriller film in Venezuelan history… for all I know it could be the ONLY thriller film in Venezuelan history, but either way, we’re watching it today!

Spook Fest 2015 – Day 15 – Housebound

Housebound is a 2014 horror film that is the 15th movie in hauntd.com’s Spook Fest 2015! I’m looking forward to this as it’s from New Zealand. The only other kiwi horror film I know of is Peter Jackson’s Dead Alive, so I’m going to assume this movie will also be good. And have lawnmower zombie death scenes.

Spook Fest 2015 – Day 14 – Nightbreed

Spook Fest’s movie #14 is Nightbreed, a Clive Barker film that somehow I had never seen before.  It’s like they got every weird costume from the SyFy show Face Off and turned it into a movie. While it’s a bit over the top, I thought it was a pretty decent movie!
